Back Care Awareness Week

Our Chronic Back Pain booklet, new for 2026, focuses primarily on chronic low back pain with consideration towards prevention but, as importantly, is also directed to those living with pain – offering some ideas on management strategies. For BCAW 2026, we have decided to make this resource available in digital format only with the aim of reducing our carbon footprint. This new booklet, along with ones from recent “Awareness Weeks”, can be read directly on our website which, we hope, will make it easier to view. You should also be able to download them all to your own device in PDF format – supported by most platforms.

The booklet is linked directly from the ISSUU site in a digital, flipbook format. The icons along the bottom of the reading pane allow you to change the initial view. Hover over the icons to see your options, such as the four outward pointing arrows on the right (enabling “full screen”) that will make reading the text easier (press “esc” key to return). To turn pages, click the white arrows on the main reading pane – right arrow = turn forward, left arrow = turn backwards.

If you want to delve deeply into the latest thinking around the subject of chronic pain in general, you might be interested in reading, “Chronic: Understanding Pain” by Gillian Best. The author is no stranger to chronic pain, suffering from multiple autoimmune conditions herself.

Millions of people live with chronic pain – everyday life is difficult and treatment is unreliable. So why is it still so poorly understood? And will there ever be a cure? Chronic pain is one of the great public health crises of our age – virtually no one is untouched, either living with it themselves or seeing their loved ones suffer. Yet, it is a topic that remains in the shadows, too often brushed aside or treated as an afterthought. Chronic: Understanding Pain is an urgent and vital answer to this silence.

Inspired by her personal experience of chronic pain, the author seeks out researchers conducting the cutting-edge work that could be the key to finally understanding and effectively treating this debilitating condition.
